Key presentations at the International Martigny Biometrics Workshop 2025
Catherine Jasserand and Abdullah Elbi both participated and spoke at the international Martigny Biometrics Workshop 2025, held at the Idiap Research Institute in Martigny, Switzerland, on 19 and 20 May, 2025.
Catherine presented on May 20, 2025 a key note entitled ‘AI Act and Biometrics: Quo Vadis’ and chaired the panel later that day on “Biometrics under the AI Act”.
Abdullah Elbi made on the same day a presentation titled “Tracing Biometrics Between the Lines: First Guidelines on Prohibited AI Practices under the EU AI Act & More” and participated in the panel discussion chaired by Catherine with the topic ‘The AI Act and Reflection on Governance, Literacy, and Operationalisation’. The panel gathered technical and legal experts and discussed the evolving regulatory landscape surrounding biometric technologies.
The conference was co-organised by the European Association for Biometrics (EAB), the Centre for Identification Technology Research (CITeR), and Idiap. It was fully booked and convened in person over 120 participants from academia, industry, government, and civil society to explore key topics such as biometric template security, deepfake and morphing attack detection, foundation models in biometrics, and the implications of the EU AI Act.
